The lodge is a nice stop in the park. They do a good job of advertising local art and they have a decent gift shop inside. The restaurant is good and the staff is very quick to help you. The food was very good. I do not know about the staying aspects of this place as we only ate at the restaurant. But it seemed to be generally top of the line in terms of meeting customer expectations. I was pleased with what I saw.
The hospitality has been top notch. From the moment we walked in, the front desk staff have been great (I can't remember the nice lady working the afternoon/evening of May 30th). Emilio did a great job filling in as the bartender with keeping our drinks full and Jacob Steele was very friendly and quickly asked how our stay was going. Jacob gave us fantastic recommendations for hiking (Sunset Peak).
We've had such an enjoyable stay at Sylvan Lake Lodge. It's the perfect place, and I'm glad we came before the peak of busy season. The staff are fantastic and full of anticipation of the busy summer they're expecting. We love it here and can't wait to return.
Another big shout out to Mary down in the General Store for guiding us on a great hike around the lake and surrounding areas. My husband and I highly recommend making this beautiful place a destination on your trip. Worth every penny!!
The lodge was pretty much what I expected from a state park. If you are going to hike at Custer, this is the area of the park to be in. I would give the housekeeping 5 stars. They were excellent. The reason I'm only giving the lodge 3 stars is because it is not on the lake!?! It is a short hike to get down to the lake, which is not what I expected for $200 per night. But what really blew my mind is the fact that they have a nice huge patio that would overlook the lake if they would just cut down the handful of trees blocking the view! The room was clean. The restaurant was too pricy. Location to trails was great.
Stayed in room for two. Very small and uninviting considering the cost of the room. Views were nice. Food prices are high for what you get. Staff..... not the friendliest. Perhaps they're just tired from a long tourist season. All in all, not a bad place, probably wouldn't come back to stay though.
One recommendation would be to drive up the hill during daylight as it is a very windy road for us who aren't used to driving in the mountains.
Sylvan Lake Lodge is located in a beautiful area. Surrounded by trees, rocks, and the lake it makes for a great venue to have a meeting. The cabins were cozy and very nicely decorated. Whether there for work or pleasure, it's the perfect place to have a break from the hustle and bustle of life.
