Great site for free camping in the off season. The sites were clean and the location convenient to lots of the South Dakota sightseeing and hiking/biking trails. Would definitely stay here again.
The hosts were very rude to me. They laughed at my name, and tried to charge me an additional fee. They said it was a pet fee. When I told them I had paid for my reservation online and did not have cash with me, they told me to get it. I would not stay here if they paid me to.
We stayed here recently for several days on our summer family vacation. The campsites were nice and well-maintained. Bismark Lake is small, but very picturesque. It has boat access, so is perfectly acceptable for fishing off a small boat, kayaking, canoeing or even swimming. The camp host was very friendly and helpful. The location of the park also makes it great for seeing the local sites. Downtown Custer is easily accessible for shopping or a lunch/dinner/dessert in town if you so desire. Mt. Rushmore, Wind Cave, the Black Hills and other sights are all easy day trips from here. Highly recommend!
We had a beautiful site with a view of the lake and plenty of privacy. Not all sites are this great. It was exactly as described and there were no surprises. It is close to everything there is to see in that area.
