I took a very impromptu trip to Mount Rushmore (decided the night before) - drove 6 hours from Colorado and passed the Chief Motel about 20 minutes from the monument. I did not book a room until 10pm right as the office was closing. They left an envelope with my name and a map of where the room was located when I got in around 10:30pm. Very reasonable pricing and CLEAN! As someone who works in hospitality for a large resort, I pay attention to detail. They do a very good job - kudos to their owners. Decor is a bit dated, but I'm literally staying here for less than 10 hours and solely to sleep! Close proximity to just about everything and in a very cute town. I highly recommend!!
We spent three nights here.. Totally wonderful. Big rooms.. loved the pool area .. Super nice owner who took time to tell us all the awesome places to see around town. We really enjoyed our time here and will definitely stay here again if we ever make it back to South Dakota.
Location is great, off the main road in Custer. Room was clean and comfortable and offered a family room with 2 queens and a full bed. Our family of 7 enjoyed the extra space at a great price. We came down from mount rushmore late, after their office closed, and they had a welcome note and keys taped to the door for us. Staff was friendly. We did not use the pool or spa only thing I'd change is a small breakfast offering, but there are a few breakfast places in town .
Best stay of our entire vacation! Clean, comfortable, friendly and did I mention how CLEAN it was? The gentleman at the front desk was welcoming and very helpful. We will definitely have the Chief Motel at the top of our list when we plan our next vacation!
This motel is clean a and cozy. The staff is friendly and willing to help. Kids staying there seemed to be having a good time. No Pets. No Smoking. No breakfast, but there are lots of restaurants nearby. On the main road that leads to the tourist sights like Mt. Rushmore. I would stay there again.
